It’s that time of year when Mr. and Mrs. Fox make their home under our shed. When it gets warmer, we hope to see some kits scurrying around the yard like last year.
Foxes are a joy to watch! When the snow falls, they come out to play like little kids. They like to find a nice spot in the sun, even in the snow.Even when it gets later in the day and the sun starts slipping away, they still seem to enjoy the snow.
We see them out and about during certain times of the day, usually around 7 in the morning, at some point mid-day, and then around 4 or 5.We see them exploring around the yard especially when it’s cold. They like to take naps out in the wide open yard, as long as there is sun beaming down on them. The photos below aren’t the best, but we finally caught them together. There was a lot of scrambling to find a camera–any camera–in order to take these shots! They are usually spotted separately though. This one sure is adorable!
We just can’t seem to get enough of them. They truly are beautiful and interesting animals. They can be fierce when it comes to protecting their territory or grabbing a bite to eat, but more often than not, we’ve seen them to be playful (and sleepy) like dogs, and light on their feet and bouncy like cats.
We love it when they come up close to the house. For some reason, he didn’t notice all five of us staring at him through the window just a few feet away.At the slightest noise–especially the noise of a clicking camera–they run off. This one decided to walk away. Maybe he is getting used to us?Here is one of the foxes going off into the woods after slipping under our fence and bouncing around our neighbor’s yard. The setting of the sun signals the foxes to get moving to find themselves some dinner. Good luck when there is all that snow!
We hope to have more fox stories to come–stay tuned!

Excellent pictures Tomek. Keep watching.
Thanks! He needs to somehow catch them while outside and at a closer distance. It ain’t easy!
I’m so happy they’re back!! We just have a stray cat that lives under our house who the neighbors feed everyday call Mittens. I don’t mind her living here because she is taking care of any mice populations… keep taking pics for us! 🙂
That’s pretty neat–what kind of cat? We haven’t seen our foxes in a couple of days. I’m wondering what’s up with that–I hope nothing has happened to them. They are so fun to watch!
How lucky you are to have the same foxes (Mr. & Mrs.) returning to your property year after year, sensing a safe place to start their new family again! Even through the photos, they bring much comfort to me when imagining their interaction with one another. They are just beautiful! Have no doubt, they are great source of your daily enjoyment, especially for the children. With great anticipation, we’re awaiting to see their cubs.
Congratulations to the photographer for his perceptive eye to capture every move of Mama and Papa while their waiting for the little ones to be born, thus creating a great story!
We sure are lucky to have them back again! They are gorgeous animals. It’s nice to see them especially since we are still longing for Fritz to be back. We hope we will see their little ones by next month! Stay tuned.
