Quick and Delicious: Magic Squares

My roommate and friend from college introduced me to these delicious bar cookies.  I’m forever thankful!!!

These cookies are so easy to make and yet so tasty–for kids, young and old–that it’s our staple cookie for the holiday dessert table (no matter what the holiday) and to take to parties.  You need graham cracker crumbs, butter, a bit of sugar, sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and coconut.  No slaving in the kitchen for hours.  No room for error.  It’s a must have this holiday season, or any season at all!!

Press in the graham cracker/sugar/melted butter mixture.  (I mix it up in a pan over medium-low heat first.)

Sprinkle on the chocolate chips and coconut (and nuts if desired) and pour the condensed milk over it all.

Bake until golden brown, about 25 minutes.

Let it cool in the pan at room temperature.  Then it’s best to put it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before cutting into squares to ensure clean cuts.  You can skip this step if you don’t have time to wait.

Done!
